Summer shoes: hot trends and tips to find shoes that fit

May 28, 2014 on Fashion and Beauty

Marylin Monroe used to say: “give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world"! Well, we can certainly say that Marylin knew it better than anyone as she has for sure managed to conquer the world and her name remained immortal even after she passed away all those years ago. Because summer fashion is all about wearing just few items it does not mean that we are allowed to walk around bare foot, but shoes actually become more important than ever in the hot season, as they can totally slim down and enhance your legs, something you really want to do when you are wearing your shorts or mini-skirt. But let's see what are the top summer shoe trends for 2013!

Ankle Straps

We could probably say that ankle straps are the top shoe trend for this summer. We can see them both for the evening, on ski-high heels, and for the day, on flats and sandals. Go for a pair with a wide strap if you don't have really long and thin legs, otherwise it will simply "cut" your figure making your legs look heavier and shorter! You can also choose either to opt for a pair with an embellished strap, with beads, sequins or metal, or go for the minimal summer shoe trend and choose the shoes all in one color (preferably black or white) with little or no decoration at all.

Want to push it even further!? Transparencies in summer shoes are another great trend, so go for a pair that has Lucite inserts either in the heel, the sides or toe area.

Gladiator/Caged Sandals

Still on the wave of "50 Shades of Grey", this year the sandals are fierce, strappy and with a touch of bondage. So gladiator and caged sandals are back in fashion, really sexy and "ready for a kill".

Cutout Booties

Low booties have become more and more seasonless in the past few years and this year the micro-trend for them is laser-cut. It is a great idea for the summer, as they leave the foot to breathe a bit more. The cutout could be in different places, especially we see a lot done on the sides of the shoe or as a peep toe.

Chunky heels

We cannot be anything but happy that chunky heels are another summer shoe trend! These type of heel is incredibly comfortable, stable and with an androgynous feel that comes straight from the 20th century. Plus, this year the shoes don't have to be ski-high to be sexy but you can go for a low kitten-like heel that is even more comfortable for the day.

Slipper Flats

Slipper flats are inspired by the men's smoking slippers and are another must-have of this summer's fashion. You can then incorporate another summer shoe trend by going for cap toes in a contrasting color (especially metallic colors) or material, or also printed with mustaches or decorated by studs.

Wedge Sneakers

It has happened: you can now wear your classic Chanel and elegant clothes with a pair of sneakers! Especially sneakers with a built-in wedge are super trendy this summer and they will have the positive characteristic of giving you also some height!

Now that you know which shoes are in fashion this summer the question is: where can I find them for less? Everyone knows that online you can make the best deals, especially thanks to the coupons that you can find, but it is often quite difficult to find the right ones that fit perfectly your feet! You don't want to end up getting all excited about a pair of stylish summer shoes and when they arrive they make your feet really hurt or you can't even wear them because they are the wrong size. I think that these few tips will really help you in choosing your next pair of shoes when shopping online!

  1. Know Your Body
Before attempting to buy shoes online you should already have quite a good understanding of your body. You should know which types of shoes make your legs look slimmer and longer and which actually make you look just heavier. In this way you will immediately know which styles to avoid, and if you are not sure try them on first in a shop.
  2. Use the size chart
Most online stores provide a size chart that is super useful to find the right fit of shoes for you, but most people tend to ignore it! You have to understand that different brands have different measurements and therefore your size in one type of shoe can be totally different from another of another company. Plus, it is especially useful when trying to buy shoes from a foreign store and the conversion chart helps you understand what shoe size you are for that country.

  3. Read the return policy
Make sure that you can return the shoes in case they do not fit! You don't want to be stuck with a pair of shoes that you cannot wear, so before buying them check that you can return them with ease and that you will be entirely refunded.
