1. Do a wardrobe inventory

Take one afternoon to check your children’s wardrobes to see what clothes are ruined and which ones do not fit them anymore and spot the gaps that you will need to fill with your back to school shopping. If something is just a little bit ruined, it is not necessary that you through it away but you can just repair it or have it repaired. If it does not fit but it’s in great conditions you can either sell it or do a clothing swap.

2. Plan in advance

Browse websites and catalogs to see what this year’s back to school fashion is and what your children like. In choosing the clothes that you are going to buy, keep in mind also any dress code that you children might have. Then you can write down a list of everything that you need and plan a budget based on that.

3. Strategically time your shopping trip

Buy only the bare minimum your children really need before the school starts, when the prices are much higher, but wait for the sales that will be after the school has started to buy the rest. In this way you will save a lot of money!

4. Don’t forget the underwear

If they have grown a few inches they have probably outgrown also their underwear or it might have gotten ruined in the past year. Buy new sets of underwear for each child so it will all last for another year.
