Spring is here, and so are some new fashion trends for women and men. Clothing is often looser and brighter this season. While some of the colors we see in fashion are consistent with previous years, 2013 also sports some bold new flair in its wardrobe.
Clothing Styles for Women
Spring and summer dresses are popular as they are very flexible in going from office wear to nighttime wear. A strapless dress paired with a jacket works well in the office with a pair of flats or mid-height heels. Take off the jacket and throw on some high heels for a flirty after work outfit. Long flowing capris or pants are also popular and can be paired with a jacket or sweater for the office, as well. Short, flowing dresses are also popular. Comfortable dresses with loose fabrics are a staple this spring.
Popular Colors for Spring
Colors in shades of candy are nearly always popular for spring and summer. I see lots of pink and yellow this spring, along with coral, orange, and blues. Also popular is green, particularly mint this season. Besides these traditional spring-like colors, 2013 welcomes in bolder and brighter colors and patterns. Neon has come into the forefront with its bold colors that are particularly effective in purses and shoes. Perhaps a surprise is the onslaught of black and white we are now seeing. Now, while I haven’t seen so much of it on a local level, mixtures of black and white are all over Hollywood. Look to the stars to see what they are wearing. Black and white in geometric shapes and checks, to be sure, but I see mostly stripes. Black and white stripes everywhere. This is good news for many, as black and white are quite flattering, are timeless colors, and can be mixed and matched in so many different ways. Besides black and white patterns, floral patterns are also big in 2013. Florals aren’t limited just to clothing but can also be seen on purses and shoes. Florals can be fun, but don’t overdo them! Florals are best mixed with solid colors so as not to overwhelm.
Accessories for Women
Accessories can also be bold. Imagine pairing a bright green purse with a new black and white striped outfit! Purses in wild florals are perfect to wear with complimentary solid colors. Shoes, from flats to wedges to mid and high heels, no longer have to be boring black or white. I remember as a teenager matching up bright pink shoes and purses, or deep blues or greens. Well, those days are here again, with purses and shoes bursting with bright colors. Still, it’s smart to always have those black, white, or even beige shoes that may be needed for certain outfits. Other items this spring for women’s wardrobes are scarves and hip belts. Scarves can easily dress up any outfit. Hip belts, narrow and resting on the hip, are perfect for reigning in that loose, flowing dress to achieve a more fitted look. Spring Clothing for Men
Remember the show, Miami Vice, from the 80’s? Don Johnson would always wear T-shirts with a jacket. Well, those days are back again. T-shirts are a must-have for men in the warm months. They can be paired with a jacket for a dressier look, along with a nice pair of pants or even dressy shorts. Men’s T-shirts and dress shirts are coming out in bright colors, too, this season.
